Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has come out strongly to denounce a decision by an African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) bishop banning her from addressing congregants in any of the church’s branches.

The vocal legislator, known for her boldness and outspokenness, did not hold back as she fired back at the church leadership, accusing them of corruption, intimidation, and misuse of power under the guise of religious authority.

According to a directive issued by the AIPCA bishop, Wamuchomba is no longer allowed to speak in any church function or event associated with the denomination.

The statement claimed that the MP had allegedly “insulted” church leaders, though no specific remarks were quoted.

The bishop went as far as warning that any reverend or priest who gives Wamuchomba a platform will face immediate disciplinary action, including possible suspension or dismissal from the church.

However, in a swift and fiery response, Wamuchomba dismissed the ban as a desperate attempt to silence her for speaking out against corruption within church ranks.

She accused certain leaders of turning the church into a political playground and a hub for financial manipulation instead of focusing on the spiritual welfare of believers.

The MP maintained that her criticism was not an insult but a call for accountability and transparency in how church funds are handled.

“I will not be intimidated by individuals who are using religion to enrich themselves.

The church is supposed to be a place of truth and righteousness, not a business empire run by a few greedy people,” Wamuchomba stated.

She further emphasized that she has deep respect for the AIPCA congregation and genuine clergy members who serve faithfully, but she will continue to expose wrongdoing wherever she finds it.

The controversy has since sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans. Some church members and political observers defended Wamuchomba, praising her courage to challenge corruption even in sacred institutions.

Others, however, argued that her approach may have been confrontational and disrespectful to the clergy.

Despite the backlash, Wamuchomba remains unapologetic. She vowed to continue advocating for integrity, both in politics and the church, saying that silencing leaders who speak truth to power will only encourage moral decay in society.

The standoff between the MP the AIPCA leadership now adds to the growing list of clashes between politicians and religious authorities in Kenya.
