Calls are intensifying for urgent action against corruption and misconduct within Kenya’s education sector following growing concerns about the Teachers Service Commission’s (TSC) handling of complaints from teachers.

Reports indicate that several secondary school principals have been accused of abusing their authority, mistreating teachers, and mismanaging school resources while some TSC officials allegedly protect them for personal gain.

Across the country, teachers have spoken out about toxic working environments created by rogue school heads, claiming that their grievances are often ignored or dismissed by the Commission.

Some educators say that when they attempt to expose corruption, they are threatened, transferred, or falsely charged in a bid to silence them.

Investigations reveal that certain principals have turned public schools into private enterprises by inflating procurement deals, diverting funds meant for students, and misusing school resources.

Union officials and education experts argue that TSC’s disciplinary system has lost its credibility due to favoritism, bias, and a lack of accountability.

“The Commission should be upholding integrity and fairness, but what we see instead is impunity and intimidation,” lamented one teachers’ union representative.

Parents and students have also felt the consequences, with some learners being denied essential services or subjected to unfair punishments resulting from poor school management.

Analysts warn that the situation is worsening teacher morale and eroding public confidence in the education system.

Stakeholders are now calling on Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and Parliament’s Education Committee to launch a comprehensive probe into TSC operations.

They insist that firm disciplinary and legal action must be taken against corrupt officials and abusive principals to restore trust and professionalism.

Unless immediate reforms are implemented, experts caution that the crisis could cripple Kenya’s education system and jeopardize the future of thousands of learners nationwide.
