Tears and anguish have engulfed a family in Naivasha after their daughter, Naomi Wangari, was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances together with her boyfriend.
The 28-year-old mother of two had gone missing more than a week earlier, sparking frantic searches and desperate prayers from her parents. Their worst fears were confirmed when her mutilated body was later traced at City Mortuary, ending the agonising wait in heartbreak.
According to relatives, Naomi, who lived in Mlolongo, had stepped out on the evening of August 24 to meet her boyfriend, Kimani, at a local club. That was the last time she was seen alive. Both of them vanished, and days later, their lifeless bodies were discovered in circumstances that left the family demanding answers.
Her father, Elisha Mburu, said the state of her body suggested foul play. He believes attempts were made to disguise her killing as a road accident. The family has accused authorities of dragging their feet, insisting that justice is being delayed while the suspects walk free.
Naomi’s mother, Grace Mukuhi, broke down as she described her daughter as hardworking and selfless, the sole provider for her two young children who now remain under the care of ageing grandparents. “She was not a criminal. She only wanted a better life for her children,” she wept.
The family’s frustration has been directed at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, with claims that little has been done to pursue those behind the gruesome murder.
Neighbours and friends who thronged the homestead described Naomi as a cheerful young woman whose life was cut short in a cruel twist. The tragedy has left the entire community shaken, with calls mounting for urgent investigations.
Naomi’s children, now left orphaned of their mother’s care, are at the centre of the family’s grief as they struggle to come to terms with the devastating loss.
