Supporters of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) thronged Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, August 21, eagerly awaiting the arrival of their party leader, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as hundreds of loyalists, draped in party colors and waving flags, gathered from the early morning hours to welcome him back to the country after his political and diplomatic tour of the United States.

Chants of party slogans and patriotic songs filled the air as the crowd swelled by the hour.

Cleophas Malala, the party’s Secretary General, had earlier announced that the leadership had mobilized over 300,000 supporters nationwide for the homecoming event.

Security was notably tight in and around the airport, with police officers stationed at key entry and exit points to manage the huge turnout and ensure order.

Traffic diversions were also reported along several roads leading to JKIA, as authorities braced for the massive procession expected to escort Gachagua into the city.Among the notable figures spotted at the airport was Wanjiku Muhoho, cousin to former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Taking to social media, she described the mood at JKIA as electric, calling Gachagua “the enigma and master of the new era politics.”

Her sentiments echoed the excitement seen among the supporters, who rehearsed chants in anticipation of their leader’s arrival.

By midday, all eyes were on the arrival terminal as supporters waited to catch the first glimpse of Gachagua, moment that many described as symbolic for the DCP’s political momentum ahead of future contests.

The gathering reflected, strong grassroots support Gachagua continues to command, particularly among the DCP base.
