KDF Soldiers

Nairobi was thrown into shock on Wednesday after a senior officer of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) who had been reported missing was discovered dead inside his house. The discovery has raised serious questions after it emerged that his fully loaded AK-47 rifle could not be traced.

According to reports, the officer, whose name has not yet been released as his family is being informed, had failed to report to duty earlier this week. Concerned colleagues attempted to reach him through phone calls without success. A team was later dispatched to his residence in Nairobi where they stumbled upon his lifeless body.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear. Police sources revealed that the officer’s service weapon, an AK-47 rifle loaded with several rounds of ammunition, was missing from the house. Investigators are now trying to establish whether the firearm was stolen or if it could have been used in the events leading to his death.

Neighbours said they had not noticed anything unusual, though some admitted to hearing movements in the house a night before the discovery. “He was a quiet man. We never expected something like this could happen,” said one resident.

Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and military police have since taken over the matter. Scenes of crime officers were seen combing through the residence for clues, while the body was moved to the mortuary for postmortem examination.

The missing weapon has caused alarm, with security officials stressing that the rifle could pose a major threat if it falls into the wrong hands. Authorities have assured the public that a manhunt has been launched to recover the gun and arrest anyone connected to the case.

The KDF has remained tight-lipped, only confirming that one of their officers has died and investigations are ongoing. The death has sent shockwaves within the military and the wider security sector, given the officer’s senior position and the sensitive nature of his duties.

As investigations continue, questions linger about whether the officer was a victim of foul play, targeted attack, or if his death was linked to other personal circumstances.
