Two men from Silibwet town in Bomet Central have been formally charged in court after they were allegedly caught engaging in an act of sodomy inside a shop.

The incident, which has shocked the local community, took place earlier this week and quickly spread on social media and in local discussions.

The suspects have been identified as Marshal Kipkurui, 47, and Kelvin Kipkorir, 22.

According to police reports, the two were allegedly found in the act inside a business premise in Silibwet.

People who witnessed the incident reportedly alerted the authorities immediately.

Police officers arrived at the scene promptly and arrested the two men.

They were taken to the local police station for questioning before being transferred to court.

On Friday, 15th August 2025, the suspects appeared before the Bomet Law Courts, where they faced charges related to committing an unnatural act, which is a criminal offence under Kenyan law.

The prosecution told the court that the men were apprehended after credible eyewitness accounts and that evidence had been gathered to support the case.

Statements from those who were present at the scene have already been recorded, and investigators say they will rely on both testimony and other supporting evidence during the trial.

News of the arrest has sparked heated discussions in the area.

Some residents have strongly condemned the act, calling it immoral and unacceptable, while others have urged the public to wait for the court to determine the matter based on facts and evidence.

Legal experts have noted that if found guilty, the suspects could face lengthy prison terms as provided for in the Penal Code.

The court has also warned members of the public against making defamatory remarks or interfering with witnesses as the matter is now before the judiciary.

Both Kipkurui and Kipkorir have denied the charges and are expected to return to court on a later date for the hearing.
