Fear and grief have engulfed Kamiuu village in Embu County following the brutal murder of two brothers whose lifeless bodies were discovered in a nearby thicket on Tuesday morning.
The horrific incident has sent shockwaves across the local community, with residents demanding swift justice and increased security.
According to preliminary reports, the bodies of the siblings — aged 24 and 27 — were found by a herder who had gone to graze livestock in the area.
He raised the alarm, prompting locals to rush to the scene, where they were met with the chilling sight: the brothers’ bodies bore deep cuts and appeared to have been severely beaten before being dumped.
“We are devastated. These were good boys — humble, hardworking, and never in trouble. We don’t understand who would do something so cruel,” said a grieving relative at the scene, visibly shaken.
Residents described the murder as a calculated and cold-blooded act, with some suggesting that the victims may have been lured away or kidnapped before being killed.
The motive behind the killings remains unclear, but speculation is rife about possible land disputes or unresolved personal conflicts.
County police officers who arrived at the scene shortly after the discovery cordoned off the area and launched investigations.
Speaking to the press, Embu East Sub-County Police Commander Daniel Kiragu confirmed the deaths and assured residents that the matter is being treated with the urgency it deserves.
“This is a heinous crime, and we will not rest until we identify and apprehend those responsible. We urge anyone with information to come forward,” Kiragu stated.
The bodies were moved to Embu Level Five Hospital Mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
Meanwhile, leaders and human rights activists have condemned the killings, urging the government to prioritize security in rural areas where such incidents often go unreported or unresolved.
“We cannot allow our villages to become death zones. The state must act, and justice must be served,” said local MCA Janet Wanjiru.
As investigations continue, the community remains on edge, with many calling for night patrols and the installation of security lights to deter criminal activities.
The murders have cast a long shadow over Kamiuu village, turning what was once a quiet, close-knit community into one gripped by fear and uncertainty.
