The family of Albert Ojwang, a teacher and blogger who died in a police cell, has received a visit from senior police officers.

The officers came from the Nyanza region and went to the family’s home in Kakoth village, Rachuonyo East, Homa Bay County. They went to offer their sympathy and support after the tragic death of Ojwang.

Ojwang died while in custody at Central Police Station in Nairobi. He had been arrested in Homa Bay and later moved to Nairobi.

According to police reports, he arrived at the station on the night of June 7, 2025. He was allowed to call his wife to say he was safe.

However, by the early morning of June 8, he was found unconscious in his cell. He was taken to Mbagathi Hospital, where doctors said he was already dead when he arrived.

A postmortem report showed he had serious injuries. These included head wounds, internal bleeding, and signs of neck injuries.

These injuries raised many questions about how he died. The public, human rights groups, and his family are now demanding a full investigation.

During their visit, the police officers were led by Nyanza Regional Police Commander Gisiri Nyamohanga. They gave the family food and other supplies to help them during the mourning period.

Commander Nyamohanga said the police want justice and are also hurting because of the death. He promised that action would be taken.

The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, later confirmed that several officers had been suspended. These include the officer in charge of the station and those who were on duty the night Ojwang died.

He also apologized to the public for an earlier police statement that wrongly claimed Ojwang had taken his own life.

Ojwang’s death has shocked many people in Kenya. Family, friends, and citizens continue to visit his home to offer their support.

His father, Meshack Ojwang, said the family is grateful for the support they are getting, but they also want answers and justice.
