Nairobi, Kenya — Tension is building nationwide as Kenyans brace for the official statement expected tomorrow regarding the fatal police shooting of a young mask vendor, after a leaked clip surfaced online revealing a disturbing exchange between officers involved.
In the video, identified by investigators as Frame 2, Officer Klincy is seen arguing with a fellow police officer moments after the fatal shot. His words have sparked anger and disbelief:
“Me I didn’t intend to shoot him. It’s this other cop who pushed the guy, then I shot him by mistake,” Klincy says in the clip.
The leaked footage, now circulating widely on social media, shows the young vendor, reportedly from Homa Bay County, being pushed toward Klincy seconds before the gunshot is fired. Eyewitnesses had earlier claimed the vendor posed no threat and was unarmed.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has confirmed it is in possession of the original footage and will present its preliminary findings during a press briefing scheduled for Tuesday morning.
The family of the deceased, whose name is being withheld pending confirmation and protection, is demanding justice.
“This was not an accident. It was murder in uniform,” said a grieving relative during a press conference outside their home. “We want the officer and his accomplices prosecuted.”
Suba MP Millie Odhiambo, speaking in Parliament, confirmed the victim was from Homa Bay County, calling on the government to “act swiftly and ensure no cover-up.”
“This is not just about one boy. It’s about how police treat ordinary Kenyans. This violence must stop,” she said.
Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International Kenya, are calling for immediate suspension of the officers involved and the release of all unedited footage to the public.
IG Japhet Koome have remained silent, drawing criticism from civil society groups demanding accountability.
Political analysts say tomorrow’s briefing could either restore public confidence—or deepen the crisis facing the National Police Service.
“The footage is clear. The statement tomorrow must match the truth, or the streets will speak louder,” said lawyer and activist Jerotich Seii.
As the nation waits for answers, one thing is certain—Frame 2 has ignited a storm, and what happens tomorrow could define the public’s trust in law enforcement for years to come.
