A Nairobi woman has shared her painful story of how one decision changed her life forever.
Peris Njeri has been in Lang’ata Women’s Prison for more than 12 years after being given a life sentence in 2009. She says she never imagined that helping a friend would lead her to prison.
According to Njeri, the trouble started when her best friend’s husband began a relationship with another woman. Her friend became angry and wanted revenge.
Njeri said she agreed to help her friend. She was asked to take some money to people, but she claims she did not know exactly what the money was for. Sadly, the plan ended in tragedy when a baby lost their life.
Today, Njeri says she regrets her actions every day.
Before her arrest, she was a successful businesswoman who supported her family. After she went to prison, her business collapsed and her family suffered greatly.
“I had a good life and a good business. Everything changed,” she said.
Despite the pain, Njeri has not lost hope. She says counselling sessions in prison have helped her stay strong. She also prays daily and asks God for forgiveness.
The inmate hopes that one day she may receive a pardon and return to society.
Experts say her story is a reminder that one wrong decision, especially when influenced by friends, can change a person’s life forever.
Many people on social media said her experience teaches an important lesson: avoid getting involved in other people’s fights because the consequences can be very serious.
