Winnie Odinga has revealed plans to turn years of personal memories and recordings of her late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, into a documentary series that she hopes could eventually be streamed on Netflix.
Speaking in an interview published on Saturday, August 29, 2026, Winnie said she had spent years documenting aspects of her relationship with Raila, including recording conversations and preserving his voice.
She now wants to use some of that material to tell a more personal story about the former premier and give younger generations a different way of understanding his life.
Winnie said she would prefer the project to be a short six-part series, with each episode exploring selected experiences from her life with her father.
“What I’d love to do more, really, is a documentary series. A short series, six episodes, something on Netflix,” she said.
Her proposed documentary would differ from a conventional political biography because it would examine Raila largely through the perspective of his daughter.
Rather than concentrating exclusively on his decades in Kenyan politics, the series could explore family memories, private conversations and moments that the public rarely saw.
Winnie said she had already created a collection of material that could potentially contribute to the project.
She recalled asking her father questions and recording his voice, explaining that documenting his experiences had been something she had done over the years.
The recordings could provide valuable first-hand material for a documentary, particularly because Raila was one of Kenya’s most prominent political figures for several decades.
Beyond the proposed Netflix project, Winnie also revealed that she is considering writing a memoir about her life with her father.
She indicated that the book would focus on selected experiences, including memories surrounding different election periods and other significant moments they experienced together.
The memoir would offer another opportunity to document Raila away from the political stage and highlight the father-daughter relationship behind his public image.
Raila died in October 2025, leaving behind a long political career that included his tenure as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013.
He was also a former Member of Parliament for Lang’ata and remained a major figure in Kenya’s opposition politics for decades.
Winnie’s plans come as the Odinga family continues efforts to preserve and present aspects of his legacy.
She also spoke about plans connected to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Museum in Bondo, which seeks to preserve the history of the Odinga family and broader aspects of African history, democracy and constitutional affairs.
The proposed documentary and memoir could therefore become part of a wider effort to preserve personal memories of Raila for future generations.
For younger Kenyans who may know Raila mainly through his political campaigns and public appearances, Winnie’s project could provide a more intimate account of the man behind the political figure.
Whether the proposed six-part series eventually reaches Netflix will depend on its development, production and distribution arrangements.
For now, however, Winnie has made clear that she wants the memories, recordings and stories she collected during her father’s lifetime to reach a much wider audience.
