Internet sensation and street boxer Mbavu Destroyer has finally explained why he still lives at his mother’s house in Mbote despite his growing online fame. The boxer, who rose to prominence through viral street-fight clips, said his decision is driven by reality, not weakness.
In a recent interview, Mbavu revealed that life after internet fame has not been as easy as many people assume it to be. He explained that economic pressure and a lack of a stable income forced him to move back home from Nyando. According to him, viral attention does not always translate into financial gain, especially for emerging athletes without formal contracts.
Mbavu said staying at his mother’s house keeps him focused and disciplined. He added that he refuses to be pushed into a flashy lifestyle just to impress social media users. The boxer noted that many young people fall into debt trying to “look successful,” something he has chosen to avoid. For him, peace of mind matters more than appearances.
The street boxer spoke warmly about his mother, describing her as his pillar of strength. He said her prayers give him hope during difficult moments. Mbavu believes that remaining close to family helps him stay grounded as he works towards bigger goals in boxing and life.
His journey has recently taken a positive turn after receiving support from Geoffrey Mosiria, the Nairobi County Chief Officer. Mosiria enrolled Mbavu at a private boxing academy to sharpen his skills. The professional training is intended to prepare him for his much-anticipated fight against Majembe, a match that has excited boxing fans across the country.
Mbavu also received a major morale boost after William Ruto pledged KSh 1 million to support his boxing career. The gesture aims to motivate young talents and promote sports development in Kenya.
Despite the challenges, Mbavu remains hopeful. He believes discipline, patience, and hard work will eventually pay off. His story reflects the reality behind viral fame and the quiet strength of staying true to one’s roots.
