A Luo Nyanza politician was heard trying to make fun of her embarrassing ordeal after tripping and falling in public at an event on Thursday.
Homa Bay Woman Representative Joyce Atieno Bensuda lost her balance and fell down after receiving President William Ruto in Oyugis.
The incident happened just after the Commander in Chief had finished signing the visitors at the Oyugis Water Project.
It prompted some members of his security detail to rush in to help the Woman Rep get back on her feet.
Bensuda was moments later heard making fun and laughing about the incident with area governor Gladys Wanga, and in a video seen by The Star, is heard jokingly telling Wanga, “Nimeanguka nayo”.
‘Anguka nayo’ (drop with it) is a phrase that has come to be commonly used after the anti-government protests that a section of the youth attempted to use to remove Ruto from power.
Ruto’s tour of Nyanza comes after his newfound bromance with area kingpin and ODM leader Raila Odinga, which seems to have helped evaporate the political dislike the lakeside region had for him.
Raila’s insiders are among beneficiaries of the government changes Ruto made in response to the protests, with some landing ministerial roles in his new cabinet setup.
