The atmosphere at JKIA has turned into a political carnival as supporters of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua troop to the airport in large numbers.

Dressed head to toe in Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) colours, the loyalists gathered hours before his expected landing, singing, dancing and waving banners to welcome what they called their king.

Footage aired by Citizen TV showed determined crowds holding the line outside the airport despite heavy police presence. In the clip, which is already going viral online, supporters vowed to remain until Gachagua sets foot on Kenyan soil. Watch the video here.

The sea of branded T-shirts and flags effectively turned JKIA’s entrance into a political stage. Analysts suggest the massive turnout is a deliberate show of force, signalling that Gachagua’s return is not just about his U.S. trip but also about giving fresh energy to the DCP movement.

Security teams had a tough time managing the swelling numbers, erecting barricades to restrict access to sensitive areas. Yet, the chants and songs from outside only grew louder as supporters defied the scorching sun, waiting patiently for their leader’s arrival.

Observers believe Gachagua will seize the moment to sharpen his political message. His expected speech at Jacaranda Grounds is tipped to be critical of President William Ruto’s leadership, especially on issues like the high cost of living and widening rifts within government.

Insiders argue today’s show of loyalty could be the starting point for DCP’s stronger positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.

Meanwhile, social media has lit up with hashtags and trending clips from the airport, sparking conversations on whether Gachagua intends to challenge the commander in chief directly or play kingmaker in shaping Kenya’s political future.
