Intelligence information that goons were planning to cause fresh chaos to create another opportunity for thievery and ransacking is the reason why hawk-eyed police officers in full riot gear have been manning the area around Quickmart OTC branch.
This has been revealed by the branch’s managers who spoke to the media on Saturday. “We had received information that the goons were planning to cause afresh chaos so that they can return and ransack the place again,” one of the managers told members of the forth estate.
The managers’ position has been corroborated by Central sub county police commander Stephen Okal who dispelled earlier rumours that police could be trying to cover up more cases of human rights abuse at the supermarket.
“Contrary to the speculations, we had deployed officers to provide security in places where goons were planning to loot,” he said.
“The claims are false,” another manager at the store told members of the press.
By the time of going to press on Saturday evening, the area around the supermarket was still cordoned off with security beefed up. Officers are are still on site.
The supermarket is yet to return to normalcy. When members of the media visited the place, workers were busy clearing up the debris on the floor and shelves.
Managers revealed that their electronics section was the most affected with all shelves wiped. Goons made away with CPUs, desktops, music systems, pads and television sets.
