Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has been removed from his position as Chairperson of the Public Service Superannuation Fund (PSSF) Board of Trustees following a formal directive issued by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi.
The decision, formalized in a Gazette notice dated June 27, 2025, marks a significant shift in leadership within a crucial government institution responsible for managing retirement benefits for civil servants.
Wangamati’s tenure, which began on June 8, 2024, after an appointment by former Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u, was expected to last three years.
His removal came without any explanation from CS Mbadi, leaving room for speculation regarding the motivations behind the sudden decision. The silence surrounding the revocation is especially notable given Wangamati’s previous role as county chief and his profile within public service management circles.
The decision is part of a broader series of government appointments and removals currently sweeping across ministries and county governments.
Cabinet secretaries are quietly restructuring boards and commissions, seemingly to inject new energy or align with shifting policy priorities.
One such move includes the ICT Ministry’s decision to appoint Lucy Minayo Lugatia and Anthony Nzau Musau to the Complaints Commission, with three-year terms that commenced in late May.
Meanwhile, counties are also seeing internal transformations. In Busia, Governor Paul Otuoma has named a new team to steer the County Rural and Urban Affordable Housing Committee, headed by Seth Harrison Wetoyi Adams.
Vihiga County’s administration, under Governor Wilber Ottichilo, has set up an Ad Hoc Committee to examine Luanda’s readiness for elevation to municipal status.
In Marsabit, Governor Mohamud Ali has filled two critical short-term roles Chief Officer of Finance and Chief Officer of Revenue and Resource Mobilization with Godfrey Godana and Galm Guyo, respectively, for a period of three months.
