Prominent activist and digital content creator Wanjiku Thiga has reportedly gone missing after sending a brief distress signal during a live session on X Spaces.
According to early reports, Thiga was speaking from Kamakis, Ruiru, when her stream abruptly ended. Listeners who tuned in to her broadcast say the final moments were marked by panic before the audio cut off completely.
Thiga’s disappearance has sparked a wave of concern across the country, particularly among youth and civil society groups who follow her outspoken commentary on social justice, governance, and police conduct.
Within minutes of her silence, social media platforms lit up with messages seeking answers and calling for immediate intervention from authorities.
Eyewitnesses in Kamakis claim a vehicle with concealed plates was seen parked near the restaurant she was reportedly at, shortly before she vanished.
Others reported seeing unidentified individuals approaching her shortly after she ended the broadcast.
Wanjiku Thiga has built a strong presence online as an advocate for transparency, equal rights, and police reform.
She has also been involved in organizing community dialogues and holding public forums on civic education, often critical of state institutions and their conduct during periods of political unrest.
Her reported abduction comes amid a string of disappearances involving other government critics, most recently Peter Kawanjiru and blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia, whose whereabouts also remain unknown.
These incidents have stoked fears over rising threats to freedom of expression and personal security for outspoken figures.
Human rights organizations and legal groups are already issuing statements calling for a coordinated response from law enforcement and the judiciary.
Demands are growing for the Ministry of Interior and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to treat the matter with urgency and provide concrete information about her status.
