There was drama in Eldoret City on Friday night after two police officers were arrested following a shooting incident at a popular nightclub in the town.
According to a police report filed at Eldoret Police Station, the incident occurred at Baniyas Night Club, located about two kilometres from the station, during what began as a routine night out involving the two officers.
An Occurrence Book (OB) entry seen by Kenyans.co.ke indicates that the officers entered the establishment at around 12:30pm, where they ordered food and drinks and remained at the premises for several hours as the evening progressed.
The report further states that everything appeared normal until around 9pm, when a disagreement reportedly broke out between the officers and a waiter. The misunderstanding quickly escalated into a heated confrontation inside the entertainment joint, drawing the attention of other patrons.
According to the OB details, the situation worsened when one of the officers allegedly drew a pistol during the altercation. In the ensuing chaos, a single gunshot was fired inside the nightclub, causing panic among customers who rushed for safety.
Security personnel at the establishment quickly intervened and alerted law enforcement officers stationed nearby. Police officers from Eldoret Police Station responded to the scene and arrested the two officers involved in the incident.
No serious injuries were immediately reported following the gunfire, though the incident left patrons shaken and forced the temporary closure of the club as investigations began.
Authorities have since launched a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including how the firearm was used in a public entertainment venue and whether proper protocols were followed.
The two officers are being held in custody as internal and criminal investigations continue. Police have assured members of the public that appropriate action will be taken once the probe is complete, emphasizing that no officer is above the law.
