Shocking footage captured by a news reporter during Wednesday’s anti-government protests near Quickmart OTC in Nairobi has exposed a disturbing scene of violence.
The video reveals a group of unidentified armed men, described as “goons,” brutally attacking protesters with clubs and whips while police officers stood by, seemingly indifferent.
The protests, marking the one-year anniversary of the deadly 2024 anti-tax demonstrations, saw thousands take to the streets to demand justice for police brutality and governance issues.
However, the peaceful march turned chaotic as these goons, some reportedly acting in tandem with police, assaulted demonstrators.
In the footage, one man is seen lying on the ground, mercilessly beaten by several attackers as police vehicles passed without intervention.
Social media erupted with outrage, with users alleging the goons were state-sponsored, operating under police protection.
One post on X stated, “These aren’t random goons; they’re government officers in civilian cover.”
Quickmart issued a statement denying rumors of casualties or hidden bodies at their OTC branch, confirming the store was looted but no one was harmed.
The incident has fueled public anger, with rights groups condemning the police’s inaction.
The Kenya Medical Association reported eight deaths and over 400 injuries nationwide during the protests.
Authorities have yet to address the video evidence, raising questions about accountability and state involvement in the violence.
