The Oxford Crown Court in the United Kingdom sentenced Lydia Mugambe, a judge on the Ugandan High Court and the United Nations, to six years and four months in prison.

This occurred after she brought a Ugandan woman to the UK under false pretenses and made her perform unpaid nanny and housekeeping duties.

During her sentencing, the court observed that Mugambe blamed the victim rather than expressing regret. Lydia Mugambe, a United Nations judge, received a sentence of six years and four months in prison.

The Oxford Crown Court in the United Kingdom convicted Mugambe of modern-day slavery offenses. Mugambe is also a High Court judge in Uganda.

She was charged with enslaving a Ugandan woman as a domestic worker. Police found that the 50-year-old judge had a woman working for her as a nanny and maid, without compensation, while she was pursuing a PhD in law at the University of Oxford, according to BBC News.

Mugambe displayed no remorse and even blamed the victim for what had happened, according to Judge David Foxton, who handed down the sentence.

How did a woman from Uganda travel to the UK? According to reports, the UN judge set up the young woman’s fraudulent visa application.

She was purportedly informed that she would receive compensation for working as a private servant at John Mugerwa’s London-based diplomatic residence, which was the former deputy high commissioner of Uganda.

According to the prosecution, Mugerwa sponsored the victim’s visa knowing full well that she would serve Mugambe as a slave.
