MP Leo Wa Muthende Njeru has welcomed a High Court ruling that affirmed his election as the Mbeere North Member of Parliament, describing the outcome as a validation of the will of voters. The decision delivered by the High Court in Embu on Thursday upheld the earlier declaration by the IEBC which had announced him the winner of November 27, 2025 by-election by a margin of 494 votes.

Justice Richard Mwongo, in his ruling, rejected an election petition submitted by Newton Kariuki Ndwiga, indicating that the claims of irregularities, intimidation, and vote tampering were not adequately substantiated in court.

The petition contested the election results, citing concerns about purported violence at polling stations, issues with official forms, and discrepancies related to a name change from Leonard Muriuki Njeru to Leo Wa Muthende Njeru.

The court ordered that a certificate of validity be sent to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, formally affirming the MP’s status and resolving the dispute linked to the by-election.

After the ruling, Wamuthende expressed his appreciation to his supporters in Mbeere North, stating that the decision reinforced his commitment to serve the constituents. He noted that the legal challenge had hindered development efforts but reiterated his dedication to fulfilling his campaign promises.

Political analysts remarked that the ruling upholds the integrity of electoral dispute resolution mechanisms in Kenya, particularly in closely contested by-elections.

This case garnered considerable attention due to its slim margin and allegations of irregularities, yet the court found the evidence insufficient to alter results, effectively concluding the extended legal dispute. The decision was largely celebrated by supporters throughout the constituency.
