Two police officers have been found guilty of murder by the Eldoret High Court for the torture and subsequent death of Denis Lusava.
High Court Judge Reuben Nyakundi determined that Constable Emmanuel Wafula and Godwine Wekesa were responsible for the murder of the 21-year-old individual at Mbururu Police Station in Likuyani, Kakamega County.
Police constables Emmanuel Barasa and Godwine Wekesa were convicted of murder after a lengthy legal struggle that lasted over five years.
The case centered on the violent killing of Lusava within a police cell hours after his arrest.
The court was informed that the officers subsequently transported his body and dumped it in River Nzoia in an effort to conceal the crime.
In a significant ruling delivered in Eldoret on Friday, Justice Nyakundi stated that this case represents a crucial turning point in the fight against custodial deaths.
This is happening after a a similar case of custodial death at the Central Police station, involving Albert Ojwang raised concerns.
