Rahab Mioho from Kiambu County never imagined that a simple act of compassion would come at such a high personal cost.

A single mother of three, Rahab’s life took a dramatic turn after she welcomed her injured brother, David Kimani, into her home—a decision that not only strained her finances but also cost her marriage.

Speaking in an interview,Rahab recounted how tragedy struck her family barely a month ago. Her brother had gone to visit his girlfriend in Kiambu, only to find her with another man.

What began as a heated confrontation quickly escalated. The other man, reportedly intoxicated, became aggressive.

In the chaos, David was thrown off a fifth-floor balcony. Miraculously, he survived the fall but sustained a broken leg.

With nowhere else to go and in need of care, David was taken in by his sister. However, hosting him came with unexpected consequences. Rahab’s husband grew increasingly uncomfortable with David’s presence in their home.

As the situation worsened, her marriage crumbled under the pressure, leaving her to care for both her children and her ailing brother alone.

“I never thought helping my own blood would cost me my family,” Rahab lamented. “But I had no choice. He was in pain, and I couldn’t turn my back on him.”

Financially, Rahab has been stretched thin. She was forced to close her small business to focus on David’s recovery.

Regular trips to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital and the looming need for surgery to insert a metal plate in his leg have left her overwhelmed.

With school-going children, rising household expenses, and mounting medical bills, Rahab is barely holding on.

Her story is a powerful reflection of how quickly life can change, and how difficult choices—especially those made out of love and duty—can come with deep personal sacrifices.

Yet, despite the loss and hardship, Rahab remains committed to supporting her brother’s recovery, even as she struggles to rebuild her own life.
