Türkiye has reportedly introduced an exemption from residence permit application fees for citizens of 10 countries, a move that could reduce the financial burden on eligible foreigners seeking to live in the country.

The reported policy may make the residence permit application process more affordable for people from the affected countries. However, applicants may still be required to meet other immigration conditions before receiving permission to stay in Türkiye.

Residence permits are important for foreign nationals who intend to remain in the country beyond the period allowed under their visa or visa-free entry arrangements. Depending on the applicant’s circumstances, the process may involve submitting documents, providing proof of accommodation and demonstrating that they meet the relevant eligibility requirements.

The reported fee exemption could benefit individuals planning to study, work, join family members or pursue other lawful reasons for staying in Türkiye, depending on the categories covered by the policy.

However, an exemption from an application fee does not automatically guarantee approval. Applicants may still need to comply with documentation requirements, deadlines and other applicable immigration regulations. Other expenses associated with preparing an application may also remain payable.

Foreign nationals interested in benefiting from the reported change are advised to confirm whether their nationality and residence permit category qualify before submitting an application.

Türkiye’s Directorate General of Migration Management remains the key official source for checking current residence permit rules, application procedures and applicable fees.
