A dramatic scene unfolded on a Nairobi road on Tuesday when a street acrobat blocked traffic, leading to a heated confrontation with traffic police — all while an ambulance blared its sirens, stuck helplessly in the gridlock.

The bizarre incident was caught on camera by a stunned motorist, and the video has since gone viral, sparking public outrage and debate over street performances and enforcement of road safety.

In the footage, the acrobat can be seen performing stunts directly in the middle of a busy intersection, momentarily halting vehicles to demand money from motorists. What began as a street show quickly escalated into chaos when a traffic police officer approached to disperse him and clear the way for an oncoming ambulance, whose sirens could be heard in the background.

Witnesses say the acrobat became uncooperative and resisted orders to leave the road, leading to a scuffle with the officer. At one point, the officer is seen grabbing the acrobat, who retaliates, triggering a brief but intense altercation that disrupted traffic even further.

The ambulance, believed to be transporting a critical patient, was delayed for several minutes before police finally managed to restore order.

Kenyans online expressed mixed reactions — with some condemning the acrobat’s reckless behavior for endangering lives, while others criticized the police for their handling of the situation, calling for more humane engagement with informal street workers.

Nairobi traffic authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but sources indicate a crackdown on street performers operating in dangerous areas is likely to follow.

This incident adds to growing concern about the state of Nairobi’s roads, where unregulated street acts, rogue boda boda riders, and unrelenting traffic continue to endanger lives daily.
