Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has been tipped as the opposition’s preferred presidential candidate in a leaked United Opposition lineup ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to documents obtained by KTN News, Kalonzo emerged as the front-runner due to his political experience and leadership since the formation of the broad-based opposition coalition.
The proposed coalition includes notable figures such as Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i, Eugene Wamalwa, Martha Karua, Justin Muturi, and George Natembeya.
Rigathi Gachagua, who leads the Democracy for Citizens Party, is expected to retain a powerful position as the Prime Cabinet Secretary across all arrangements.
Possible running mates for Kalonzo include Matiang’i, Wamalwa, and Natembeya, with suggestions that Natembeya may either seek re-election as governor or head the Interior Ministry.
If Matiang’i or Wamalwa is picked as deputy, the other may become Senate Speaker. Martha Karua is proposed for National Assembly Speaker, and Justin Muturi could return as Attorney General.
Political analyst Gitile Naituli emphasized that the success of the coalition will depend on its ability to avoid internal competition.
He warned that if Mt. Kenya fields a presidential candidate like Gachagua, it could lead to a Ruto victory.
Meanwhile, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi criticized the inclusion of former regime leaders, doubting their ability to bring real change.
ODM leader Raila Odinga recently stated he is open to supporting either Ruto or Kalonzo in 2027, acknowledging his longstanding friendship with Kalonzo, although no formal request has been made for endorsement.
The leaked lineup has sparked significant discussion, with the opposition aiming to rally behind the “Wantam” agenda to unseat President Ruto and revive Kenya’s economy.
