A suspected thief faced the full wrath of an irate mob in Mwea, Kirinyaga county, minutes after a botched robbery.

Police at Kinangop in Kirinyaga County on the morning of Thursday, March 20, picked the remains of a man who had been burnt by locals for allegedly being a robber.

The episode began on Wednesday night when a resident of Magumu area was heard screaming saying the man had stolen bananas from the farm.

Locals went after the man and managed to get hold of him before they subjected him to a mob injustice. They bundled him inside his getaway car and set it ablaze.

The thief was burnt to ashes along with the vehicle he was using to ferry the bananas.

 

Police warned residents against taking the law into their hands saying any criminal should be surrendered to police for court processing.

Residents say that they decided to take the action as their efforts to have authorities fight insecurity had fallen on deaf ears. The explained that theft had become a major concern, blaming security agents in the area for laxity in containing the situation.
