Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has announced that there will be no demonstrations on June 25, 2025. He said the day will remain a normal working day and not a public holiday.
Mwaura added that anyone who wishes to remember the events of last year’s Gen Z protests is free to do so privately at home.
His announcement comes as some youth and opposition leaders had called for fresh protests to mark the anniversary of the June 25, 2024 demonstrations.
Those protests were led by Gen Z and were sparked by the controversial Finance Bill 2024, which was later withdrawn by President William Ruto.
Mwaura did not mention any plans for police action but maintained that the government does not support public protests on that day. His statement signals that the government wants the day to pass peacefully, with no disruptions to normal life and activities across the country.
