Former Kilgoris MP Gideon Konchela dies while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Nairobi, Education PS Ololtuaa confirms; he had been unwell since November last year.
The late Konchela was a prominent political leader who served the people of Kilgoris Constituency for 20 years. During his long tenure in public service, he played a significant role in the development and leadership of the constituency.His passing marks the end of a distinguished political career and is a great loss to his family, friends, supporters, and the people of Kilgoris.
Beyond the military, as Member of Parliament for Kilgoris, he dedicated himself tirelessly to the service of the people. His commitment to fostering unity among communities, advancing agriculture for better livelihoods, and improving access to education has left a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come. He was a leader who truly cared about development and bringing people together.
Many will remember the fierce political contests between Konchela and the late Hon. Ngong Ngeno Ole Kisiara, particularly following the disputed 2007 election and the subsequent 2008 by-election. They stood on opposite sides of one of the most competitive political battles the region has witnessed, yet in June 2009, at a fundraiser at Emurua Dikirr AGC Church, they publicly shook hands in a gesture of reconciliation and statesmanship, witnessed by national leaders and the congregation.
With a heavy heart I’ve learned of the passing of Hon. Gideon Konchella, former MP for Kilgoris, this morning. He served Kilgoris with dedication and was a true son of the land.
