Mount Kenya politics has taken a dramatic turn after Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba openly rejected the Democracy for Citizens Party, the outfit linked to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Once considered one of Gachagua’s strongest allies, Wamuchomba has now distanced herself, saying the party is riddled with intimidation and coercion.

Speaking firmly, the vocal legislator declared she cannot subscribe to a culture that thrives on dictatorship. Her remarks, shared through this post, sparked fresh debate on whether the party can truly hold together ahead of 2027.

Wamuchomba explained that the breaking point came after her visit to condole with the family of Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah. The simple act of compassion, she revealed, was twisted into an act of betrayal by Gachagua’s loyalists, exposing her to hostility and suspicion within the party’s circles.

The legislator described herself as a victim of misplaced anger, saying she has been unfairly punished for showing empathy. According to her, no leader should be bullied for choosing humanity over political calculations.

Her exit has shifted the ground in Mount Kenya, as she is now openly aligning with Kenya Moja, a rising movement driven by youthful MPs positioning themselves as a third force in national politics. Political observers argue this signals deeper cracks in Gachagua’s support base, weakening his hold on the region as rival formations quietly gain momentum.

Wamuchomba reminded critics of her long record of standing with women, farmers, and the marginalized. She noted that those she once defended have now branded her a traitor, yet her conscience remains intact.

By rejecting the Democracy for Citizens Party, she sent a clear message that her politics will no longer be guided by fear or forced loyalty.

Her defiance raises new questions about how Mount Kenya politics will reorganize ahead of 2027, especially with young leaders rallying behind alternative movements.
