The aftermath of the violent attack on the Linda Mwananchi convoy in Keumbu, Kisii County, has taken a tragic turn after leaders allied to the movement claimed one of their supporters succumbed to injuries sustained during chaos witnessed on Friday, July 3, 2026.

The leaders identified the deceased as Vincent Oscemo, popularly known as Mapinduzi, saying he died after falling from a moving campaign vehicle that came under a sustained stone attack as the convoy travelled from Kisii town towards Keroka.

Supporter reportedly died after convoy attack

According to the lawmakers, while speaking on Sunday, July 5, 2026, the deceased, a resident of Bobasi, was among supporters riding on one of the campaign vehicles when suspected goons ambushed the convoy at Keumbu Market.

They say he was struck by a stone before losing his grip and falling onto the road, where he suffered serious head injuries as the vehicle sped away from the scene.

Led by Kitutu Masaba Member of Parliament Clive Gisairo, the leaders further claimed that at least 20 other people were injured during what they described as a coordinated attack targeting the opposition convoy.

“We have lost lives and many others have been injured. What happened in Keumbu should never be tolerated in a democratic society,” Gisairo said while addressing the media in Nyamira on Sunday July 5, 2026.

Opposition faults security agencies

The Kitutu Masaba Member of Parliament, Clive Gisairo, further accused security agencies of failing to stop the violence despite police officers reportedly being present at the scene.

They further claimed videos circulating online showed individuals throwing stones near police officers, calling for investigations into the conduct of security personnel deployed during the incident.

“There is a lady wearing a red T-shirt who was next to a police officer throwing stones and asking for more. Has she been arrested or are we still carrying out forensic investigations?” Gesairo said.

DCI widens investigations

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has intensified investigations into the Keumbu violence.

On Sunday, July 5, 2026, the National Police Service announced that Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhanda had been summoned to appear before the Kisii County DCI offices in connection with the ongoing probe.

Police also confirmed the arrest of four additional persons of interest, bringing the total number of those in custody to seven following a joint operation by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Keumbu and detectives from DCI Kisii Central.

While opposition leaders have announced the death of Oscemo, the National Police Service had not officially confirmed the reported fatality by Sunday. Police say investigations remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack and identify all those responsible.
