UDA MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has dismissed the Nyahururu declaration by 48 MPs, which she says is aimed at isolating Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. In a statement posted on X, she termed the move as a “blessing in disguise” for the DP, adding that it only serves to distract the public from the real issues affecting voters.

Wamuchomba emphasized that what matters most is whether voters are getting the promised benefits from sectors like coffee, milk, and tea, as well as the delivery of the many promises made by the Kenya Kwanza (KK) government. She criticized the MPs for losing touch with their voters by supporting the “punitive” finance bills of 2023 and 2024.

According to Wamuchomba, the press conference held to disown the Deputy President was a diversionary tactic, with the MPs failing to address the pressing concerns of their constituents. She mentioned the failure to account for the missing children from the Endarasha fire and the ongoing eviction of traders from Marigiti market as examples of issues that should have been prioritized.

Additionally, Wamuchomba noted that the MPs should have been more focused on advocating for the victims of house demolitions in Mathare and Pipeline, as well as those affected by the Mai Mahiu dam tragedy.

In her view, the declaration was just “hot air,” aimed at stirring the political landscape to push Gachagua out of government. However, she asserted that this move is only making him more popular with many Kenyans.
