The Killer cop

The murder of prominent mental health expert Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso has taken a dramatic turn after detectives named three serving police officers as suspects in her assassination.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohamed Amin identified the officer who allegedly pulled the trigger as Police Constable Elijah Kibelion Kimoi, attached to Karinde Police Post under Kikuyu Police Station.

Kimoi has been arrested after forensic evidence placed him at the scene of the fatal shooting.

Amin named Inspector Kenneth Kipkemboi Sang of Nderi Police Post as the link person between the financiers of the murder and the operational team, as well as the source of the murder weapon.

A third officer, PC Bett Kiplangat Collins of Thogoto Police Post, was also forensically placed at the scene and is currently on the run.

Detectives traced the murder weapon, a Mini Jericho pistol, to the armoury at Nderi Police Post. Ballistic examination positively identified the firearm as the one used in the fatal shooting, with spent cartridges and a recovered bullet matching test-fired specimens from the gun.

The DCI disclosed that Dr Mutiso was shot dead on July 29, 2026, while travelling in an Uber after leaving her Bamboo Lane residence, when a black Toyota Prado blocked the vehicle before gunmen opened fire.

Investigators also revealed Dr Mutiso had survived an earlier attempt on her life on July 7, 2026, when armed men on a motorcycle confronted her along Ngong Road.

Director Amin condemned the involvement of serving officers, saying it represented “a grave betrayal of the uniform and the public trust.”
