A quiet school morning in Nandi North Sub-county turned tense after two Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers were reportedly sent away by their head teacher. Their mistake, according to colleagues, was attending an official zonal meeting.
The meeting had been organized to plan for the upcoming athletics championship set to begin next week. The two teachers had been invited as part of the preparation team for the sports event.
Fellow teachers say the pair left school with permission to attend the meeting. What followed later surprised many and left staff members talking in low tones across the compound.
News of the incident spread quickly among JSS teachers in the zone. Many questioned why teachers performing an activity linked to school programs would face such action.
KUPPET officials in Nandi have strongly criticized the move. The union described the incident as intimidation and unnecessary confrontation at a time when teamwork is needed.
Union representatives have now asked the head of institution to address the matter and resolve it through dialogue. They warned that failure to do so could lead to further action.
The situation has created unease among teachers who are already busy preparing students for the athletics competition. Some say the incident has affected morale at a critical time in the school calendar.
Education stakeholders in the area are following the matter closely. Many hope for a calm solution that restores harmony in the school environment.
As preparations for the athletics event continue, teachers say they only want clarity, respect, and cooperation from school leadership.
More details are expected as discussions continue between the union and the school administration.
