Police have issued an update after the vehicle of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju was found abandoned in Nairobi’s Karen area, raising fresh concern about his whereabouts.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the car was discovered along Miotoni Lane with its hazard lights on. A security guard in the area reportedly became suspicious after noticing the vehicle had been left unattended for some time and alerted authorities.

Officers from Karen Police Station responded to the scene and secured the area before forensic experts carried out an examination. The vehicle was later towed as investigations into the incident began.

According to detectives, the matter came to light after Tuju could not be reached for several hours. His phone was said to be off, making it difficult for family members and associates to contact him. This prompted concern and led to the report that triggered police action.

Investigators are now working to retrace his movements in the hours before the car was found. A team has been assigned to the case, and officers are following up on leads that could help establish what happened.

Reports also indicate that Tuju had earlier raised concerns about his safety. He is said to have claimed that he noticed an unfamiliar vehicle following him shortly before the incident. It remains unclear whether this is connected to his disappearance, but detectives are treating it as part of their inquiry.

He was also expected to attend a scheduled media interview on the same day but failed to show up, which further raised alarm among those expecting him.

The DCI has urged members of the public who may have seen him or noticed anything unusual in the Karen area to share information that could assist with the investigation.

Police say they are continuing with efforts to determine what led to the incident and to establish Tuju’s whereabouts as the search continues.
