Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has sparked fresh debate after advising former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju to reach out to President William Ruto for assistance as he battles mounting legal and health challenges.
In a statement shared on March 25, 2026, Ngunyi urged Tuju to reconsider his political alliances and instead align himself with the Head of State, suggesting that such a move could help resolve his current predicament. According to the analyst, President Ruto had previously expressed willingness to build a working relationship with Tuju, making him a more reliable ally in the circumstances.
“Call Ruto and your problems will go away,” Ngunyi stated, adding that opposition leaders, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, may not be in a position to offer meaningful support at this critical moment.
The remarks come against the backdrop of Tuju’s ongoing legal battle, where he recently secured anticipatory bail of Sh200,000 from the High Court to prevent what he terms as an imminent unlawful arrest. Tuju has accused state agencies, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), of orchestrating attempts to detain him without formal charges.
Currently admitted at Karen Hospital under police watch, Tuju’s condition has raised concern among political leaders. Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa have criticized the manner in which Tuju was handled during his arrest, claiming he sustained injuries and requires urgent medical care.
However, President Ruto has dismissed these claims, accusing opposition figures of politicizing Tuju’s situation for their own gain.
As the matter heads back to court on April 7, the unfolding developments continue to highlight deep political divisions, with Tuju’s case now at the center of a broader power struggle within Kenya’s political landscape.
