Tanzanian musician Zuhura Othman Soud, popularly known as Zuchu, has dismissed claims that she rejected Kenya or vowed not to work with local artists.
Speaking in a recent interview, the singer explained that the rumors were false and had been twisted from a radio discussion, which created unnecessary tension between her and her Kenyan supporters. She described the allegations as unfair, saying they painted her in a negative light.
Zuchu noted that one of the most painful comments she has come across online is that she dislikes Kenya and has no interest in performing there.
She said the narrative began after two radio presenters speculated about her career choices and spread misleading remarks. When she first saw the false claims circulating, her reaction was to block those pushing the story instead of engaging in arguments.
The artist added that she normally avoids responding to hateful remarks directly because doing so only fuels unnecessary conflict. According to her, silence and ignoring trolls is a healthier way of dealing with negativity. However, she admitted that watching the same falsehood resurface online has been frustrating because it affects how genuine fans perceive her.
She went on to clarify that a large portion of her audience is Kenyan, and she treasures their support. She said she respects her fans across the region, including those in Nairobi and other Kenyan cities, and has no reason to turn her back on them. Zuchu emphasized that she values love and respect from her followers and does not give attention to online hate.
Despite the rumors, Zuchu is set to perform at the closing ceremony of the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024 at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. She will share the stage with Ugandan star Eddy Kenzo and Kenya’s own Savara Mudigi before the tournament final between Morocco and Madagascar.
