Kenyan actress Jackie Matubia has spoken out after Amber Ray’s sister, Ella Ray, accused her of interfering in her relationship with businessman Steve Odek.
For the past week, Jackie has been trending on social media following speculation that she is secretly dating Odek.
The claims began after fans noticed a photo she shared online, which appeared to show her in the backseat of his car. Many quickly linked the two together, sparking heated debates across platforms.
In her response, Jackie dismissed the dating rumours, saying she has known Odek since she was 18 years old and considers him a long-time friend.
She insisted there was nothing romantic between them.
“If I wanted to date him, I would have done so a long time ago. We are just friends, nothing more,” she said.
However, Ella was not convinced. She alleged that she had found suggestive messages between Jackie and Odek, which to her proved the friendship was crossing boundaries.
Ella accused Jackie of disrespecting her relationship, sparking a new wave of online drama.
Jackie went further to address her critics, especially fans who flooded her direct messages with insults. She asked them to stop hiding behind fake accounts.
“If you are coming to insult me, do it openly. Wacheni mambo ya pseudo accounts. At least if you are accusing me, let it be about something I’ve actually done,” she fired back.
The drama quickly spilled onto social media timelines, with Kenyans taking sides. Some supported Ella, saying Jackie had crossed the line, while others defended the actress, arguing that friendships between men and women are often misinterpreted.
One fan wrote, “It’s not even about whether they slept together or not, the disrespect is already loud.”
Another added, “Jackie is always in scandals with everyone but somehow remains the innocent one. That can’t be a coincidence.”
