Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has sparked new political tensions by accusing former President Uhuru Kenyatta of wanting to divide the Orange Democratic Movement party. Mbadi reports that the former head of state has been meeting privately with a group of ODM leaders.

According to him, the gatherings are intended to undermine party unity and create internal divides. The Treasury CS claims that the ODM feels betrayed by the circumstances preceding the 2022 general election. He contends that mistakes committed during that time should not be repeated, and that the party has learnt difficult lessons from previous political compromises.

Mbadi reminded ODM members who allegedly participated in the meetings that the party leadership is well aware of their behaviour. He emphasised that ODM will not accept activities that jeopardise its stability or overall orientation. The remarks represent a significant increase in political exchanges involving the former president. They also highlight Uhuru Kenyatta’s continued influence in opposition politics, despite leaving power.
