Sandra Mbuvi, popularly known as Thicky Sandra, daughter of former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, has announced her intention to contest the Karura Ward MCA seat in the 2027 General Election on the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) ticket.
The announcement on Saturday, September 26, 2026, comes days after her sister, Saumu Mbuvi, declared her bid for the Nairobi County Woman Representative position, also on the NEDP ticket, whose father, Mike Sonko, serves as the party leader.
“I am officially announcing my intention to run for MCA, Karura Ward, Westlands, in the 2027 General Election, under the National Economic Development Party (NEDP)”Sandra Mbuvi said.
Sandra, who had previously expressed interest in contesting the Kitisuru Ward MCA seat, said she had now shifted her focus to Karura Ward.
She said she looks forward to engaging residents, listening to their priorities and understanding the issues affecting communities in the ward.
Sandra Mbuvi’s priorities
In announcing her latest political plans, Sandra identified women’s empowerment, youth opportunities, education, healthcare, accountability and inclusive community development among her key areas of focus.

She said leadership should be centred on listening to residents, serving them and remaining accountable to the people.
“I believe leadership begins with listening, serving and being accountable to the people,” Sandra said in her announcement.
Sandra also described the Karura MCA bid as the beginning of a new journey, saying she was looking forward to connecting with residents of the ward.
Saumu Mbuvi’s Woman Rep bid
Sandra’s announcement comes shortly after Saumu officially entered the race for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat.
Saumu announced her bid on September 21, 2026, saying she was offering herself for public service and would seek the seat under the NEDP ticket.
She said her priorities would include opportunities for women, employment and entrepreneurship for young people, education and skills, healthcare, social protection and a safer, more inclusive Nairobi.
Saumu is the eldest daughter of Sonko, while Sandra is the youngest daughter in the family. Sandra had previously been reported as an aspirant for the Kitisuru MCA seat on the NEDP ticket.
