Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has firmly shut down any speculation about him joining President William Ruto’s government, making it clear he has no desire to serve in the Cabinet.
Speaking during a Thursday morning panel on Citizen TV’s Daybreak show, Sifuna responded to comments from Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, who cheekily suggested that Sifuna had an eye on the recently filled Gender Cabinet Secretary post.
“I understand why he says that; it’s because I am loved by the ladies, which is not something we can say about him,” Sifuna quipped with a smile, drawing laughter from the panel.
But on a serious note, the ODM Senator was firm. “I have no interest in serving in a government like the one in power. I would never take a Cabinet position. I am not Makau Mutua or any of those people,” he said, referring to Ruto’s recent appointment of the former Odinga ally.
Sifuna didn’t stop there. He declared that he will not be chasing any higher political seat in 2027. “I am happy serving the people of Nairobi as senator, and even in 2027, I will not seek any other office than the Nairobi senatorial position,” he affirmed.
His remarks come amid tensions within the ODM party, as some members have embraced Ruto’s “broad-based government.” Sifuna, along with vocal leaders like Siaya Governor James Orengo, has criticized such moves, accusing fellow ODM politicians of turning a blind eye to Kenyans’ struggles and failing to hold the government accountable.
In response, Ruto allies have labeled Sifuna and his camp as obstructionists unwilling to embrace unity.
Despite the political noise, Sifuna remains focused on Nairobi, promising to continue his service without compromise.
