Shock and debate have erupted online after a viral video captured a dramatic midnight incident involving senior traffic police officers and a heavily intoxicated driver along a busy roadway.

The video, widely shared on X, shows the visibly drunk man struggling to remain standing as officers attempt to administer an alcoblow test.

According to the footage, the man appears disoriented, repeatedly losing balance and at one point falling to the ground as officers surround him.

After what seems to be a brief assessment of his alcohol levels, the officers conclude that he is unfit to drive and move to detain him.

Moments later, five uniformed officers are seen dragging the man across the tarmac before hauling him into a waiting police lorry. Despite slight resistance, the officers overpower him and arrest him.

The video has stirred mixed reactions among Kenyans. Daisy Darrian commented, “Uyo anafaa aende ndani,” insisting the man posed a danger to other road users.

Another user, Jerry Marita, echoed the sentiment, saying, “Ni mbaya hiyo. He would have caused an accident or worse.”

Meanwhile, others raised concerns about the officers’ level of force. Starmnatty questioned, “Mbona sasa io force yote?” while Kipkorir Victor argued that even in cases of drunk driving, “the officers should arrest, book and arraign him in court” without unnecessary force.

A deputy sheriff on X attempted to lighten the moment, joking, “Next time, drink and stay.”

This incident comes just days after authorities warned motorists to remain cautious during the festive season, with NTSA promising heightened patrols, mobile courts, and strict enforcement to curb rising road accidents.

NTSA Director of Road Safety, Dr. Andrew Kiplagat, recently reminded Kenyans that road safety remains a shared responsibility.

The debate continues as Kenyans weigh the balance between enforcing safety and respecting human dignity during arrests.
