The United States of America has made known it’s position against the ongoing happenings in Tanzania, emanating from President Samia Suluhu’s reelection.
The United State’s Senate has expressed concern about the state of safety in the country, especially the use of security agencies to combat protesters.
The Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee has also expressed its doubts that Samia actually won, admitting that the election was a sham.
As a result, the committee wants the American government to reconsider it’s relationship with the Tanzania government.
“After this flawed election, the US-Tanzanian relationship needs to be re-examined,” Senator Jeanne Shaheen is quoted by BBC.
This is after the Tanzanian electoral body claimed Samia secured 98 percent of the vote, in an election that was largely snubbed, with most polling stations remaining empty on election day.
Citizens in most major cities and towns also came out to protest, demanding that electoral reforms be made before the polls are held.
