Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has called on the Kenyan government to take strong retaliatory action against Tanzania by banning Tanzanian businesses operating within Kenya. His remarks come after reports emerged that Tanzania has recently blocked Kenyans from starting specific businesses within its territory.

According to Cherargei, the move by Tanzania is discriminatory and undermines the spirit of regional integration under the East African Community (EAC). He urged the Ministry of Trade and Foreign Affairs to urgently intervene and ensure Kenya’s interests are protected. The senator emphasized the need for reciprocal action, arguing that Kenyan traders must not be treated unfairly in neighboring countries.

He further accused Tanzania of violating the principles of fair trade and mutual respect. The issue is expected to spark diplomatic discussions between the two countries, as concerns rise over the future of cross-border trade relations within the EAC bloc.
