Ruto feet

A photo of President William Ruto’s visibly swollen feet and knees has ignited a fiery online debate about his health status.

The image, shared by Alinur Mohammed with the caption “This looks like pedal edema if I’m not wrong,” shows puffy toes and inflamed joints, triggering speculation about potential underlying medical conditions.

The post immediately went viral, with Kenyans offering armchair diagnoses ranging from serious organ dysfunction to lifestyle diseases.

Andy bluntly linked the swelling to “insulin, blood sugar, high blood pressure, a concoction of lifestyle mishaps,” while adding political jabs about corruption and nepotism.

Medical professional Jibril weighed in with clinical possibilities: “Poor venous return, low Albumin, cardiac problem, kidney problems, liver problems.”

However, some defenders like Meg fired back: “Mind your health and that of your family members. Stop pointing fingers at Ruto as if all your family members are 100% healthier.” The heated exchanges reveal how even presidential health issues become politicized in Kenya’s charged environment.

Medical experts caution that while pedal edema (swelling in lower limbs) can indicate serious conditions like heart failure or kidney disease, it may also stem from temporary factors like prolonged standing, air travel, or minor injuries. Without official medical records, speculation remains just that—speculation.

State House has yet to comment on the viral photo or address the health concerns. As the debate rages, Kenyans are left wondering: Is this a temporary condition or a red flag about the President’s wellbeing?

And more importantly—should a leader’s health status be public concern or private matter? With Ruto maintaining a grueling schedule, all eyes will be on whether this swelling incident affects his public appearances or prompts an official health disclosure.
