President William Ruto has raised concerns over the poor condition of a road in Wundanyi, Taita Taveta County, after seeing its state during his visit to the area on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Ruto was in Wundanyi to lay the foundation stone for Wumingu Technical and Vocational College when he reacted to the condition of the road.
The President expressed surprise, saying he had previously been assured that the road was in good condition. However, the situation he encountered on the ground presented a different picture.
Ruto exclaimed, “Salala!” and described the situation as a “balaa kubwa,” reflecting his reaction to the state of the road.
The President said the Government would take steps to address the problem. He promised that within one month, funds would be secured, a contractor identified and construction work commenced.
His commitment comes amid concerns from residents over poor road infrastructure in parts of Wundanyi and the wider Taita Taveta region.
Road conditions remain an important concern for communities that depend on reliable transport networks to access markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services.
