A heartbreaking case involving a young girl from Ruai,Nairobi has sparked outrage after she reportedly lost her leg following an alleged beating by a teacher four years ago.
The girl was reportedly injured during punishment at school, leaving her with a broken leg.According to details shared about the case, the injury failed to heal properly, forcing her family to seek medical help at different hospitals over the years.
Despite repeated treatment and a long period of pain, her condition reportedly worsened until doctors decided to amputate the affected leg to save her life. The operation has left the young girl facing a difficult future as she adjusts to life with a disability.
The case came to public attention on Friday, October 9,after Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria highlighted the family’s situation and visited them following the amputation.
Mosiria has called for intervention to help the child receive the support she needs and ensure that the circumstances surrounding her injury are investigated.
The family is seeking justice over the alleged incident, which reportedly happened when the girl was still attending primary school.
The case has also raised serious concerns about the safety of children in schools and the use of physical punishment by teachers.
Further distress has emerged over claims that the girl’s mother has faced threats after seeking help over what happened to her daughter.
Reports circulating on social media indicate that the mother fears for her safety and wants the authorities to intervene.
The alleged threats have added another layer of concern to an already painful situation with the family now seeking protection as it pursues justice.
Mosiria has appealed for help for the girl, including access to a prosthetic leg, as well as security for her mother.
The family also needs support to help the child cope with the physical and emotional effects of the amputation.
The case has renewed attention on the need to protect pupils from abuse and ensure that complaints involving serious injuries are properly investigated.
Kenya’s Basic Education Act,2013 prohibits corporal punishment in schools. The allegations surrounding the girl’s injury therefore raise questions about the circumstances of the reported beating and whether the people responsible will be held accountable.
The family continues to seek support and justice as the child faces the long process of adapting to life after losing her leg.
