The “Calm Down” hitmaker was asked in an interview posted on Sunday, October 4, 2026, whether he had ever met someone whose wealth made him feel broke despite his own success.

Rema immediately recalled spending time with Dangote, whom he described as the richest Black man in history.

For Rema, what made the encounter memorable was that Dangote did not need any obvious signs of luxury to establish his status.

The singer said there was no private jet or flashy designer watch involved.

Instead, simply being in the presence of someone with Dangote’s level of achievement was enough.

“It’s crazy, his presence. It’s not like I saw some private jet or some crazy watch,” Rema said.

He added that Dangote’s reputation and accomplishments already spoke for themselves.

“That’s just the richest black man, bro! That’s a flex in itself. What more do you need?” Rema said.

The musician also remembered the simplicity of his first meeting with Dangote.

Despite the billionaire’s immense fortune, Rema said their interaction was remarkably ordinary, recalling that they shared food from the same plate.

“Very great, humble man, very smart, very wise. I think the first day we met we ate on the same plate,” Rema said.

The experience left an impression on the singer, who said Dangote’s humility stood out more than any material possession could have.

During the interview, Rema also brought up Dangote’s long-running ambition to acquire English Premier League club Arsenal.

The singer, who supports the London club, joked that he had been waiting for Dangote to complete the proposed takeover.

Dangote has previously spoken publicly about his interest in acquiring Arsenal, a club he has supported for years.
