Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga visited Parliament to attend a special session on the revenue sharing formula. He was joined by top Senate leaders and other senators during the important meeting held at the Senate Chambers.
Raila was flanked by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo, and Senators Edwin Sifuna, Moses Kajwang’, and Ledama ole Kina, among others. After the session, the group addressed the media to talk about what was discussed.
The meeting was organized by the Budget and Finance Committee to review recommendations on the Fourth Basis Revenue Sharing Formula. This formula helps decide how money from the national government is shared among all 47 counties in Kenya. The goal is to make sure every county gets fair funding based on population, poverty levels, and other key needs.
Speaking to the press, Raila Odinga said it is important that the formula is fair and supports counties equally. He said all parts of the country deserve to get enough funds to build roads, schools, hospitals, and provide services to citizens.
Senators also said they will work together to ensure the new formula helps both poor and rich counties grow. They agreed that no region should feel left behind.
The leaders added that public participation is key, and Kenyans should be allowed to give their views before the final decision is made.
The session comes at a time when counties are asking for more money to meet growing needs. The Senate is expected to debate and vote on the new revenue sharing formula soon.
Raila Odinga’s presence showed his support for fair devolution and better services for all Kenyans. He urged leaders to put aside politics and focus on unity and fairness.
