A mix of technology, curiosity, and celebrity intrigue has gripped Kenyans online after popular media personality Willis Raburu appealed for help to recover his lost Samsung Galaxy Fold, a high-end smartphone valued at over KSh 250,000.

The journalist and entertainer, known for his bubbly personality and digital presence, took to social media on Sunday, October 5, 2025, revealing that his device had mysteriously gone missing during an evening outing at Carnivore Restaurant in Nairobi.

However, what turned a simple case of lost property into a viral spectacle was Raburu’s revelation that the phone’s security feature had automatically captured images of the man suspected of finding or possibly keeping the device.

“Cool feature it had was that if you input the wrong screen lock code, it takes a picture of you and sends it to my email,” Raburu explained in his Facebook post.

True to its word, the phone sent two slightly blurry images of a man wearing a bucket hat, whose identity is now at the center of online speculation.

In his post, Raburu captioned the images with a polite but firm message:

“This guy clearly found the phone. If you know him or if you see this sir, DM me or email info@wabebe.co.ke.”

The word “found” emphasized in all caps triggered a flood of reactions, with fans both empathizing and joking about the situation.

While many encouraged the unknown man to do the right thing and return the device, others found humor in Raburu’s calm yet assertive tone, comparing the post to a modern-day detective story powered by artificial intelligence.

Cybersecurity experts who spoke to TUKO.co.ke noted that the feature Raburu referenced is part of Samsung’s Find My Mobile system, designed to enhance personal data protection by automatically capturing an image and transmitting it to the owner’s registered email whenever unauthorized access is detected.

It’s a clever anti-theft measure that, in this case, might just lead to justice.

Public reactions, however, have been mixed.

Some online users sympathized with Raburu, noting that losing a phone today means far more than losing a communication device it’s losing a digital identity, photos, work data, and banking apps.

Others teased the incident, suggesting the man in the photo might have innocently tried to return it.

“Maybe he wanted to call the last number and notify the owner, now he’s trending as a suspect,” one comment read. Another quipped, “He found ama he stole it? Karibu town mkuu!”

Beyond the laughs, the incident also sheds light on how smart technology continues to redefine security and accountability.

Unlike years ago, when lost phones were nearly impossible to trace, today’s devices come equipped with biometric tracking, facial recognition, and GPS features that make them almost “self-reporting.”

Raburu’s case could soon become a textbook example of how AI-backed mobile features can aid real-world recovery efforts.

Meanwhile, the entertainer has thanked his followers for their support and urged anyone with credible leads to contact him privately.

As the images continue circulating online, curiosity grows will the mystery man come forward, or will Kenya witness one of the most high-tech phone recovery sagas in its entertainment scene?

One thing remains certain: in a digital era where privacy and security intertwine, Raburu’s lost phone has sparked a national conversation not just about honesty, but also about how technology now “speaks” when we least expect it.
